WiFi Purchase Information

We've all noticed how lately, when making an online purchase, we are being asked to authorise our payment in our banking app or verify certain characters in an SMS we receive. These are the card security systems known as 3D Secure and Strong Customer Authentication.

These systems require something you know (a password), something you have (a mobile device), and something you are (fingerprint, etc) - a password and device are the easiest of the three to use, and more often than not you need to face or finger unlock your device to gain access.

All this is great for the security and online protection of your card data, however, it's a true nightmare for WiFi hotspot providers!

Here's why if you're interested - if not, the instructions are below on how to purchase.

WiFi hotspots use systems to block internet access until the device has been logged in with an authorised (paid) account - as the card security systems are on the internet they are also blocked.

We had considered whitelisting these systems, however, there are so many of them, that no WiFi system could hold that many, and even if they could - the time to query this list would slow down the purchase experience and it would likely time out!

Furthermore, the actual list seems to be one of the internet's best-kept secrets - and naturally, the banks want to keep this secret!

For these reasons we're unable to accept payment via our guest network, as to pay for internet access, you need internet access - which is the reason we ask customers to use 4G or make the purchase within the FREE 15-minute window we provide.

There is a limit of one free session per customer, therefore if the time has run out, you will need to revert to 4G or other WiFi to complete your purchase first.

  • If using 4G or another WiFi network to purchase a plan:

  • If using your free 15 minutes of access:

    • Please connect to our MyFi network on-site.

    • You'll need a mobile number that can receive an SMS, as we'll need to send a purchase link.

    • Purchase your plan via the link within 15 minutes.

  • For all customers:

    • To get online after purchasing access, please connect all devices you wish to allow online to our WiFi network.

    • You can then choose one of the following methods:

      • The Long Way - Assign an internet slot to each device when the welcome page is displayed on that device.

      • The Easy Way - With all of your devices connected to our WiFi, log in to your dashboard (link provided above), select a slot to "Use" (or "Reuse"), and then choose one of your devices from the list we have detected on-site connected to our WiFi, but not yet assigned a slot. Repeat this process to add your other devices, including consoles, smart TVs, etc.
